Diabetic patients have 2-4 times increased cardiovascular risk compared with people without diabetes. Cardiovascular diseases are silent in patients with diabetes. Sexual dysfunctions and peripheral artery disease are strongly associated with the development of overt and silent cardiovascular disease. Then, a comprehensive patient education is essential to correctly manage diabetes and co-morbidities and, consequently, to reduce the individual cardiovascular risk.
In addition, sexual dysfunctions, peripheral artery disease, and patient education can have a major role not only in the identification of diabetic patients with the highest cardiovascular risk or with silent cardiovascular disease but also in the correct management of these patients.
This special issue aims to gather current knowledge on the effect of sexual dysfunctions, peripheral artery disease, and patient education on the cardiovascular risk of patients with diabetes. We welcome original research and reviews (including systematic reviews and meta-analyses) providing useful information for cardiologists, diabetologists, endocrinologists, internists, and nurses, as well as inspiring further innovative research.
