    About the Special Issue

We started in 1978 with the research to check whether it is possible to use sonography to detect DDH or not. The first publication was 1980 and everybody was laughing about and could not believe.

Because DDH is still the most common "congenital" disease in the locomotor system, baby hip sonography had spread in a special technique worldwide.

We had learned to use hip sonography in newborns, to identify the pathology in the joints and to improve the treatment. Because of the possible earliest diagnose hip sonography can prevent catastrophes, or "prevention is better than operation".

This special issue gives authors from different countries the first time the chance to present their examination results, experience and recommendations from their country, e.g. General or local screening? Training system? Acceptation in the common health system? etc.
